- Its predecessor was the [Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce of British Malaya] founded on 2nd July 1921.
- After the 2nd World War, the Association convened its 1st meeting and adopted the name as [The Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce of Malaya].
- On 26th December 1975, it passed a resolution to change its name to [The Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia].
- Since then, it has been known as ACCCIM.
- ACCCIM’s permanent Secretariat was set up at Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall on 1st October 1973. Its present location is on 6th Floor of Menara Promet, Kuala Lumpur .
- Since its establishment, ACCCIM has endeavoured to promote close relation and co-operation of all Chinese chambers of commerce, trade associations, industrial organisations and commercial companies.
- Many issues were dealt with accordingly , from the issues of “commercial properties, plantation, mining, housing land and workers” of earlier years of 1920s and 1930s, which overseas Chinese had been negotiating and striving for up to the present day’s “working in unity for the protection and advancement of the interests of members in respect of commerce, industry, primary industries and other economic activities ”.
- Under the able leadership of the late Tan Sri Datuk Amar Wee Boon Ping, ACCCIM has successfully convinced the Chinese business community to pool resources so as able to embark on bigger enterprises and thus culminating in the establishment of the UNICO Holdings Bhd .
- The set up of UNICO Holding s Berhad was in line with the aspiration of the Chamber towards the end of 1970s.
- In 1978, ACCCIM convened 1st Malaysian Chinese Economic Congress.
- Thereafter in 1992, it convened 2nd Malaysian Chinese Economic Congress. This was an active response to Government’s call to achieve Vision 2020 to bring forth our country to become a developed country, at the same time setting specific measures and strategies to lead Chinese community into the main stream of national economic development.
- In 1985, with the support of our Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad, it successfully organised a joint delegation of Sino-Malay Joint Chambers Council of Malaysia to Beijing and held talks with the China Council f or the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) , thus culminating in the signing of the historical Sino-Malaysia Economic Co-operation Agreement which paved the way for the official signing of Bi-lateral Trade Agreement of both countries in 1988.
- Adopting the Theme of “Unity and Integrity, For Global Growth and Prosperity ”, ACCCIM had successfully organised the 7th World Chinese Entrepreneurs Convention in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 27th – 30th of July 2003.
